This week was a blast! We are very proud of our students as they continue to get into their new 4th grade routine. The end of the 9 week grading period is approaching, and I think you will be happy to know that your children have given their best effort every day! With our school's PBIS incentive, LiveSchool, the students may cash in points to earn rewards. This week our students chose to spend their points to eat lunch outside. Classroom Needs:
Thank you for being so involved in your child's education!

In science, we have begun their Light PBL (Project Based Learning) unit. Throughout this time, your students will be learning about light to answer the driving question, "How can we use what we know about light to help keep pedestrians and cyclists safe?" This will be a very engaging, meaningful unit. Ask your students what they have learned so far about light! (Opaque, Translucent, Transparent, Lense Types, & Prisms). There is a slideshow of some of our light investigation stations at the bottom of this post. In Social Studies, We are learning beginning our unit on European Explorers. We focus on explorers from Spain, France, & England. Talk to your children about where these places are and what they are like! In math we are continuing to work on multiplicative comparisons. Please continue to review multiplication facts with your children. We recommend flashcards or encouraging your child to get on their school Reflex accounts at home. If they master their multiplication facts, math will be much easier for them this year & in the years to come. In reading we have just finished our read aloud, Blood on the River. It tied into our Native American unit and was so engaging for the students. Help them with their reading comprehension by asking them what happened in the story. Encourage them to elaborate and add detail. We look forward to another wonderful week!!! Today Holsenbeck celebrated Patriot's Day. Many of the children wore red, white & blue to show their patriotism. We engaged in many fun activities celebrating America. We also discussed the September 11th attacks so your students may have many questions for you when they get home because we told them some of their questions would be better answered by their parents.
We have started our light PBL (Project Based Learning) unit which is very fun & engaging! Ask your students what they have learned so far about light (transparent, translucent, and opaque). We are also starting the European Explorers unit in Social Studies in which we will learn about the Spanish, English, and French explorations to the New World. In math we will continue working on multiplication word problems. In ELA we are finishing up narrative writing & the point of view of stories (1st person & 3rd person). Thank you for your continued support! As always feel free to email us with any concerns. :) We love our sweet 4th graders! |
