Our class has been learning about Ecosystems. The Driving Question for our unit was, “How does energy flow through a coral reef ecosystem?” Our students collected information to answer this question for the past several weeks. As the final product, our students will be building robots and programming them to demonstrate their understanding of how energy flows through one of the Great Barrier Reef’s food chains. They will record a presentation using SeeSaw. We have just started building the robots. Stay tuned for the final product next week!

We have begun using an online portfolio system called SeeSaw. Today our students used it to create sentences with prepositional phrases with things around the room. It was a fun way to assess their understanding and get them up and moving. I encourage you ask your child to show you their SeeSaw work. As we are continuing with our Ecosystems Storyline in science, we engaged in a carousel activity in which students walked around the room and listed the producers, consumers, and decomposers in the Coral Reef ecosystem. This is helping our students prepare for the robotics activity we'll start next week. Our students also cashed in Liveschool points to learn their math lesson outside. It was a great and fun opportunity for math review. Our students had their 3rd grading period Awards Ceremony in the classroom. We were very proud of our students and all of their hard work this 3rd quarter! We have started our ecosystems unit. Our focus is on the flow of energy through a coral reef ecosystem. Today we went on a Google Virtual Reality expedition to several coral reefs around the world. It was a great experience for our students to build an understanding of what we are studying. Our students had an engaging opportunity to decode a cipher to find out where a book was hidden in the school. Our class decoded it in 20 minutes and found the book in no time! Ask your child what the experience was like.
